Jamie Caven targets success with darts academy in Derby

JAMIE Caven launched his new darts academy in Derby this week.

“Jabba” has teamed up with fellow professional Steve Brown, who already runs his own academies around the country, which are endorsed by the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation).

Oakwood-based Caven, the world number 22, wants to help nurture the talent of aspiring young darts players in the area.

His academy, which he will run with wife Debbie and Steve Brown Darts Academy director Darren Barson, opened its doors at the Cueball club, in Mansfield Road, on Wednesday evening.

“We were delighted with how it went,” said Caven.

“We didn’t really know what to expect but there were 30-plus kids there, which for the first night, was brilliant.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the feedback from the parents was very positive.

“It was good to spend some time with the kids – I found it very rewarding.

“I can see the whole thing evolving very quickly.”

Anyone else interested in signing up, aged from six to 16, can pop along to the Cueball Club on any of the next three Wednesday evenings, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
